Is it always used his Social Security number as your number plate?

I was in the United States Navy from 1985 to 1990. We used our social security number as our service number. But now, with all the identity theft and privacy, the army has lost the use of their number Social Security, or are still using it?

They still use it, but is not printed on identification cards more. UPDATE: My Number Social Security in my curent ID, but the House has completed the reconciliation in the 2008 defense authorization that contains the requirement of Department Defense to remove it. Unless Def authentication fails (unlikely), or the right of veto of the president (no one) is how it is.
